The Power of Mastery in DSA Interviews
 

The Direct School Admission process is becoming a pivotal gateway for young aspirants to get into the school of their dreams. At this crucial juncture, how your child presents themselves in the interview room can be a game-changer. While grades are essential, the ability to articulate thoughts, showcase personality, and exude confidence often leaves a lasting impression.

 1. Interview and Auditions


The skills acquired for Interviews are transferable for all talents. As cited from MOE website, these include:

  • Sports and games

  • Visual, literary and performing arts

  • Debate and public speaking

  • Science, mathematics and engineering

  • Languages and humanities

  • Uniformed group

  • Leadership
     

There are four semesters in preparation of DSA Interviews and Auditions from Primary 4 to Primary 6 to prepare for Interviews and Auditions. Students are advised to start their preparation early and not wait till Primary 6 to jump into the training. 

 

Our curriculum is based on the 4 “S” model that is proprietary to The DSA Specialists” 

  • Self 

  • Spontaneity 

  • Speak well

  • Stand out

 

Primary 4:  Understanding of Self and the growth mindset 

Primary 5: Speaking up; speaking spontaneously and speaking well 

Primary 6: Standing Out in Interviews

Each Semester consists of 20 weeks.
 

Students are required to sit for a Trinity Communication Skills Grade 4 or Grade 5 exam.
 

2. Talent Development & Portfolio Building
 

In talent development and portfolio building, we strive towards being ”Outstanding”. Specializing in the craft of
acting and singing, The DSA Specialists collaborates with
Singapore Performing Arts Academy to nurture
the skills in:

a) Acting for drama and theater

b) Singing for music and choir


We also help build the students’ portfolio through:

1. International certification
2. International immersive experience in learning and performing
3. Performances

A) ACTING FOR DRAMA and THEATRE

The Spotlight on Drama in DSA

The world of theatre and drama requires not only talent but also the confidence, articulation, and presence that can captivate an audience, or in this case, the DSA selection panel. As the curtain rises for the DSA opportunity, it's vital for young theatre enthusiasts to be thoroughly prepped, both in their craft and their presentation.


Some MOE schools and School of the Arts offer Theatre and Drama using the student’s acting skills as a talent. Singapore Performing Arts Academy (SINGacademy) offers acting classes in conjunction with Trinity College, London, acting syllabus. This program offers certifications from Grade 1 to diploma levels. At SINGacademy, we are able to train and prepare our acting thespians in the craft to achieve these certifications and get them ready for the DSA auditions as well as auditions for professional theater,  commercial opportunities and competitions. 

 

The curriculum for acting includes: 

  1. Improvisations 

  2. Acting Games and Exercises 

  3. Elements of drama 

  4. Monologue presentations

  5. Ensemble presentation

B) SINGING FOR MUSIC and CHOIR

Some MOE schools and School of the Arts offer MUSIC or CHOIR  using the student’s proficiency in singing as a talent. Singapore Performing Arts Academy (SINGacademy) offers solo singing classes by our team of expert singing teachers.


This program offers certifications from Grade 1 to diploma level using repertoire from Associated Board of Royal School of Music (ABRSM)  and Trinity College, London. Certifications are in singing and musical theatre to achieve the necessary vocal techniques required to manage demands at the auditions. 


At SINGacademy, we are able to train and prepare our singers in the craft to achieve these certifications and get them ready for the DSA auditions as well as auditions for professional theater,commercial opportunities and competitions.
